Enzymatic, morphological, and genotoxic effects of benzo[a]pyrene in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss)

Fish have defense systems that are capable of repairing damages caused by xenobiotics like benzo[a]pyrene (BaP), so the aims this study were to identify BaP toxicity in melanomacrophages (MMs) cytoskeleton, evaluate melanin area MMs, and analyze genotoxicity. Rainbow trout juveniles (n = 24) split 48h 7d treatments received 2 mg/kg BaP. After experiment, blood samples collected liver was removed, proceed with analysis: EROD activity, MMs quantification, melanosomes movements, a genotoxicity test. The results revealed increased activity after 48-h 7-day exposure. group displayed reduction pigmented area, aggregation, addition an frequency micronucleus. By means assay, it possible confirm activation biotransformation system. impairment melanosomes’ movements possibly inactivation protein responsible for pigment dispersion consequently affects thus might negatively impact detoxification capacity. In cytotoxicity, micronucleus also indicate important fish species.
